This is the third time I’ve had this procedure, medial block, (it is not a permanent solution). Every time it has given respite from the continuous pain. Dr Kandikattu is excellent, he explains what he will be doing, he always ensures you are not suffering pain from the procedure and then during the procedure he gives a running commentary so you are aware of his actions. I have to say I would not want anyone else to do this because I know that by his experience and ability I will have pain relief. I recommend him 100% to other patients looking for excellent patient care and relief from pain.

I have had a consultation and 1 round of treatment (so far) from Dr Kandikattu, for nerve pain following hernia surgery. He has taken great care to explain his diagnosis and the treatment options, when it came to the treatment again he explained exactly what would be happening and throughout the treatment (nerve injections) he was very communicative and checking how I felt. I would not hesitate to recommend him not only for his knowledge and professionalism but his 'bed side manner' during all my treatment.

I met Dr Kandikattu in march when I was admitted to hospital and he has been looking after me since then (it is now JULY), he gave me time and knowledge on how to improve my situation as best as possible from home rather then going straight for intense treatment. However that has worked meaning I had to see him again for an epidural injection in my spine. He made the treatment completely pain free and made me feel so unbelievably comfortable. He understands the struggles I am dealing with and doesnt make me feel like a drama queen. I’m hoping this is the last time I have to see him but I am extremely happy with the care he has shown me so far!

Dr Kandikattu seems to be a very caring doctor. He explained all of the procedure he was going to carry out on my back and all the risks involved. During the actual process, in the operating room, hen constantly checked on my pain levels and how I was feeling in general. Durubg mny time in the recovery room he visited me to make sure I was still feeling OK. I would trust him with any further advicew concerning my back pain.

Profile

Dr Kandikattu is one of the few pain medicine consultants in East Anglia to have gained certification in the Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP). He uses the biopsychosocial model of pain to offer modern assessment and management of his patients’ pain at the Peterborough City & Stamford Hospital, Fitzwilliam and Boston West and Clementine Churchill Hospitals.

“Whilst doing my pain training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital, I was inspired by the pioneers in pain management there and I became keen to learn new techniques.”

“I am pleased to now be able to tutor students studying for their MSc in Regional Anaesthetics at the University of East Anglia and I hope that I can instil some of desire to embrace new and modern pain management techniques in these trainees.”

Dr Kandikattu offers comprehensive pain management to people suffering from chronic pain from their head to their toes including: cancer, musculoskeletal and spinal (neck, chest, lower back, sciatica), neuropathic, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and persistent post-surgical pain.

He performs a full range of pain interventions including epidurals, facet and sacroiliac joint injections, radiofrequency denervations, most of which are image-guided using x-ray or ultrasound guidance. He is also an expert in treating acute pain and inpatient pain management.

He offers outpatient appointments and inpatient care for pain management intervention at the Fitzwilliam and Boston West Hospitals. Patients struggling with chronic post-operative pain may need further pain management to relieve their discomfort and Dr Kandikattu can offer a back-up service for them too.

“I use this holistic model of approach for all my patients, taking all the biological, psychological and, social factors into account as each can impact on a patient’s pain. It’s important to treat patients as a whole.” said Dr Kandikattu.
